The editor
Markdown that reads as a page, properties with real types, in-place tables, tabs, and the appearance settings that shape them.
The editor is CodeMirror 6 over the raw Markdown. The buffer is the file, so there is no rich-text model in between and nothing is translated on save.
Reading and writing
- Markdown is revealed one marker at a time: the syntax appears on the line you are editing and the rest of the note reads as a finished page.
- Callouts, highlights, comments, tags, wiki links and syntax-highlighted code blocks all render, and Mermaid diagrams render in place.
- Sections fold away and come back when you reopen a note.
- Open notes sit in one row of tabs at the top of the window.
The note's name
A note's name sits at the top of the note and is its file name. Click it to rename the file, and the tab, the sidebar and every list follow. New notes start blank.
Properties
The frontmatter at the top of a note is a panel you fill in rather than YAML you hand-edit, with real types for text, lists, numbers, checkboxes, dates and tags.
Tables
Tables are editable in place. Click a cell and type, Tab and Enter move between cells, and right-clicking inserts or deletes rows and columns. The view never flips back to raw pipes while you are working in it.
Appearance
Vault Settings, Appearance carries the controls that change how the editor looks.
| Setting | What it does |
|---|---|
| Theme | Light, dark or follow the system. Dark is a neutral charcoal. |
| Content width | A slider from a narrow reading column to the full window width. |
| Text size | The size of note text in the editor. |
| Line numbers | Shows a line-number gutter in the editor. |
Other behaviour worth knowing
- Copying a note carries its images.
- A note opened read-only, because of a view grant or a lock, stays read-only for the whole reconnect rather than briefly becoming editable.
- The server caps a note's total size, so a single note cannot grow without bound through a sync fault.
