First run

What happens after you install it

No account, no onboarding wizard, no cloud sign-up before you can write anything.

Pick a folder

A vault is a folder of markdown files you choose. Point Baalda at an existing one and your notes are already there, wikilinks and all.

Write offline

Everything local works with no connection and no backend: the editor, full-text search, backlinks and the graph.

Turn on sharing when you need it

Sync, live collaboration, per-file permissions and AI over MCP switch on against a managed backend or one you run yourself.

On a Mac, choose Apple Silicon for any Mac from 2020 on, or Intel for older models. Once installed, Baalda keeps itself up to date through a signed in-app updater, so you only download it here once.
