Terms of Service

These terms cover your use of this website and any managed services we offer. The Baalda software itself is open source, and your use of the code is governed by its license.

1. Agreement

By using this website, downloading Baalda, or using any service we provide, you agree to these terms. If you do not agree, please do not use them. If you use Baalda on behalf of a team or company, you confirm you are allowed to accept these terms for that organization.

2. The software and its license

Baalda is open source. Your rights to use, copy, modify, and distribute the software come from its license, Apache-2.0, and where these terms and the license differ about the software itself, the license controls. These terms add the rules for the parts the license does not cover: this website and any hosted or managed services.

3. Your content is yours

Baalda is local-first. Your notes are plain markdown files on your own disk, and they belong to you. We claim no ownership over anything you write, and we do not read your files. You are responsible for what you create and for keeping your own backups.

4. Managed and collaboration services

If you use an optional managed backend or real-time collaboration feature, you are responsible for the content you share into it and for who you invite. Do not use these services to store or share anything unlawful, to break into systems you do not control, to send spam or malware, or to infringe someone else's rights. If you self-host, you run that infrastructure and are responsible for it.

5. Acceptable use

You agree not to:

  • Use the site or services to break the law or to harm others.
  • Attempt to disrupt, overload, or gain unauthorized access to our systems or another user's data.
  • Misrepresent Baalda as your own product or remove required license and attribution notices from the code.

Security research is welcome. If you want to test or report a vulnerability, please follow our security policy rather than acting against live user data.

6. Third-party services

Downloads, releases, and the source code are hosted on GitHub, which has its own terms. Your use of those services is between you and them.

7. No warranty

Baalda and this website are provided "as is," without warranties of any kind, to the fullest extent the law allows. We do not promise the software will be uninterrupted, error-free, or fit for a particular purpose. You use it at your own risk, and you are responsible for your own backups.

8. Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, we are not liable for any indirect, incidental, or consequential damages, or for any loss of data or profits, arising from your use of Baalda, the website, or our services. Because the app keeps your files on your own disk, keeping backups is the best protection against data loss.

9. Changes

We may update these terms as the product changes. When we do, we will update the date at the top of this page. If you keep using the site or services after a change, that means you accept the updated terms.
